NorthWood-Bremen 3-2 (2-0)

A lot of rain during the day improved the pitch condition to some degree and luckily for the spectators, the wet stuff moved out just before the JV kick off. A nice crowd of 150 plus would witness two NorthWood victories.

FIRST HALF
After NW settled down about 5 minutes in, the passing improved, the passing lanes opened up and the Panthers started to take the game right at the Lions defense. In the 6th, Roman took a nice shot at goal; the ricochet came back to Noodle. His next attempt was of the header variety but missed its target. The seventh minute produced an opportunity that was created by a Noodle header in the box where he targeted the player behind him. This type of lay off pass had been worked on during practice earlier in the week and it was nice to see someone executing the play. Conner took the pass but his shot went wide.
In the 12th minute NW was awarded a corner on the right side. Lincoln placed the ball in the six yard box where "Jason the Magician's" head connected with the ball for the 1-0.
In the 21st a Jason to Eddie combination concluded with an Eddie shot and a Bremen GK save.
Five minutes later a Tyler Kronk cross from the right sailed into the 18 where Lincoln headed the ball to his right. The ball found the back of the net for a 2-0 lead.
In the 30th, Eusebio got his opportunity to score but his shot met up with the crossbar and went over.
One of the better soccer moments came in the 35th when Eddie's short corner went to Conner who took a few touches towards the goal and took a shot. The shot went just wide to the left.
In the 36th, Jason dribbled the ball thru several Bremen players, passed it to Collin Tucker in the box who headed the ball to the goal area where an alert Justen (spelled it right!!!) placed a shot at the goal only to be denied by the Bremen keeper.

HALF TIME
Not too many things went wrong in the first half resulting in a positive half time speech. Some of the Bremen shortcomings were highlighted (soft defense, unable to build from the back). The goal was to be more offensive in the second in an effort to put the game away for good.

SECOND HALF
Lackluster defense (losing marks, not stepping on the ball when Bremen came at us straight up the middle) resulted in 42nd and 54th minute goals. NW looked disorganized in the back and was not able expose Bremen's weaknesses, at least not the first 20 mnutes of the second half.
NorthWood was able to regain some control of the game in the last 20 minutes of play eventually resulting in an opportunity in the box for Eddie. He got fouled twice and the second foul brought out the whistle and the pointing at the white dot. Conner "automatic" Beckwith put the game away with a well placed PK. Final scare and final score 3-2; good to come away with a win and the realization that a game is 80, not 40 minutes long.

NOTES
Bremen's huddle yell sounded more like a mix of an Indian war call and a cat in heat then a Lion ready to beat a Panther.

Smokin' Coo turned 18, hence the frozen treats following the game.

The JV beat the Lion's JV handily 3-0 with goals from Graber, Barahona and Medina. Much better performance!!!

Next up: at Wawasee next Thursday (2/9/10). Varsity game starts at 4:30, followed by the JV.
