VV Grijpskerk, champions....again!

After saturday's draw against VV Buitenpost, it was time to celebrate. The 1-1 draw was all that was needed after 't Fean 58 lost to SGV (5-0!). Grijpskerk now has gathered 4 more points then 't Fean 58 with only one game to go. This is also Grijpskerk's third championship in a row climbing their way to the First Division from the Fourth Division in three seasons. This will be the first time in the clubs history that they will compete in the First Division.

Another historic mark will be reached Wednesday when the red shirts travel to Harkemase Boys (currently in first place in the Amateur Premier League)for a spot in the semi finals of te Dutch Cup. This game is gravy already so the "smalruggen" can play freely and see where they end up.

Congratulations on a terrific season!

t' Fean58 - VV Grijpskerk 3-3

VV Grijpskerk was ahead 1-3 at the half only to let the blue shirts come back in extra time in the second half. A win would have clinched the championship. Now, with 3 points ahead of 't Fean 58, the VV will have to make sure they get the same results as 't Fean 58 in the two remaining games. More then 700 attended the game between the #1 & #2 of the 2nd Division. With two regular season games remaining as well as the Dutch Cup Final Four game, the VV is expecting a lot of fan support in the clubs most important games in two competitions in club histrory.

VV Grijpskerk - Leeuwarder Zwaluwen 4-0

Playing the #3 Leeuwarder Zwaluwen from the Frisian Capital did not intimidate the VV Grijpskerk. After a well played game the VV seems to peak at the right time to finish the season strong. t' Fean 58 lost 1-3 to Buitenpost and lost valuable point to Grijpskerk who now possesses first place by itself, 3 points ahead of 't Fean 58 with three games to go. This coming weekend will be THE derby to watch when Grijpskerk travels to 't Fean 58. If Grijpskerk pulls off a win, t' Fean 58 would only be able to tie with the redshirts if Grijpskerk would lose the remaining two games and 't Fean 58 would win both. Both teams have won a period championship as well. Grijpskerk is still in the race for the Cup as well meaning that this years competitions have already been the most succesful in club history, no matter what happens. Winning the 2nd division outright would mean promotion to the first division. If the club would not win the division outright it still qualifies for the promotional 1st division play offs because of the 2nd period championship. In other words, there are a lot of things to look for in April and May.

FC Utrecht - FC Groningen 0-1

Cupfighter Grijpskerk plays on

Grijpskerk will find out tonight (4/7/9) who the next opponent will be in the Dutch Cup. Only 8 teams are left in District North (made up of three provinces). The draw will be in SC Heerenveen's (USA National team player Bradley's team)Lenstra Stadium. After beating Lycurgus 2-0 on 3/21, the Red shirts will likely face a first or premier division team on 4/18/09 for a spot in the semi finals. This is the first time the VV will compete in the Elite Eight in the club's 64 seasons of play.
