Bethany - NorthWood pictures

***UPDATE*** Saturday's Game

from Head Coach Duerksen:

This is just an update to let everyone know that the soccer game against Plymouth on Saturday has been moved to the middle school in Wakarusa at 2:00PM. The game will be played on the middle school soccer field. We would like the parents of seniors to be there around 1:30 in order to go through senior “night” activities. I know this is not the best situation for all of us, but it is our only option at this point. Our game field has too much standing water on it, and our practice fields are in terrible condition right now. We need to play the game before Monday because Plymouth plays their sectional game on Monday, and they do not want to play Saturday night because of the short turnaround. We simply have to make the best out of what we have. Please pass this message on to parents/fans because we would like to have a nice fan turnout for our seniors. Also, bring lawn chairs because we probably won’t have bleachers. Now for the good news—entry to the game is free.

1A #3 Bethany Christian - NorthWood 4-1 (3-0)

A poorly played first half by NorthWood resulted in a 3-0 Bethany advantage after 40 minutes of play. A slow and lazy looking NorthWood in the first half, gave away to a transformed and energetic looking TEAM in the second half led by senior Connor Beckwith. A confrontational half time was meant to wake up the Panthers and get them to realize that there is a lot left to fight for, the remainder of the season. The encouraging part of Thursday's game is that the team definitely responded.

The first half could not have started worse when marks on the weak side were lost on one of the first Bethany attacks resulting in a Hollinger Janzen goal within 6 minutes. Just a little later, the same Hollinger-Janzen would get the ball near the box and a slow attempt to get in front of the ball is not enough to block an unbelievable shot that lands in the left upper 90 for a 2-0 lead. Apathy seems to be the best word to describe the rest of the half.

A much better second half results in better play overall. Faster and better passes, more pressure on the Christian's midfield results in more possession. An unfortunate attempt to defend the ball out results in a Bethany steal in the box ending up in the ropes for a 4-0 score. But the Panthers kept on playing and playing well at times. With 7 minutes left in the match, Connor crosses the ball from the right flank into the box where Eddie meets up with the ball. The ball ends up over the chalk for the final score, 4-1. The assist for Connor is well deserved after he turned out to be one of the NW workhorses in the second half. If we only could have done it for 80............

NOTES
The JV played its final game of the season and lost 4-2 after going ahead 2-0 on a Jair and Brandon Shields goal early on. Their record for the 2011-2012 is 2-11-1 so there is room for improvement. Thanks to Tom Shields and Kenny Beachy for coaching the JV and we hope to see them back next season.

Thanks also to Colleen Knepp, our bus driver, who first took the JV to Goshen and then came back to pick up the Varsity a couple of hours later so they did not have to sit in the rain for hours. Now that she has become a northwoodsoccer.blogspot.com follower it has become impossible for me to talk about her on the blog any longer.

The Varsity played very well the first ten minutes of the second half, despite being down a man (only ten players stepped on the field after play resumed). Eusebio came in to make us a full team again.

All JV players should get their uniforms washed (to get rid of the pounds of Bethany dirt); an announcement will be made when shirts/shorts & warm-ups need to be handed in.

At this point, we are still on for a 2 pm Saturday NLC/Senior "night" game at the game field. If there are any changes, I will make sure to post those here!

**Varsity Departure Change**

The Varsity will leave at 5:45 pm for their 7 pm contest with Bethany. The JV will still depart at 3:50 pm. The varsity might take a minibus or Josh's mom will drive us there!

Anymore rain and........

We will need to wear goggles! But on a serious note, the girls game for tonight has been moved to the middle school soccer field so who knows where we will end up playing Saturday.

Gameday

The team bus for the game against Bethany will leave around 4 pm, all players will have to be at the AC at 3:50 pm! Tonight's forecast calls for, what else, rain.

Monday practice

Varsity practice will be at the game field. Due to numerous injuries and having played a Saturday game to be followed by a Tuesday game, the practice will only be from 3:45 - 4:45 pm. The Varsity will meet for supper at 6:30 at Coach Dijkstra's house while watching the Sectional draw live on IHSAA.ORG (7pm).

NorthWood- #23 Concord 0-4 (0-0)

NorthWood was unable to knock off another ranked team in dreadful weather. The first half saw a mainly defensive NW who was able to hold off all Concord offensive efforts. Moments that stood out were Wysong's dive in the box that deserved a yellow and a nice header from Vitor on the Minutemen's keeper Hambrice. It was evident at the half that the Panthers would need to clear better in the second half because Concord would try to shoot more. In the 44th Kyle had a nice punch that kept the Minutemen off the board but a shot by the #5 only a minute later was followed up by a bad NW clear which gave Concord a second chance that went in (1-0). In the 47th, an Eddie turn and then pass to Noodle created NorthWood's best scoring opportunity of the game but the shot went wide. In the 49th Kyle saved another scoring attempt by Concord and only a minute later sees Wysong (#6) shoot at goal that requires Kyle to make two saves within a minute. A marking mistake leaves a Concord striker wide open who goes 1v1 on goal and scores 2-0. A foul called on Clay results in a PK in the 67th. Wysong takes the pk and shoots it in the left corner, Kyle goes to the correct side but the ball has too much pace, 3-0. Ball loss in the 79th in the middle of the field lets the Minutemen take the ball into the box and shoot without much defense, 4-0.

The Panthers fall to 9-5 (3-3 NLC).
Next up are the Plymouth Rockies on Tuesday night (senior night) where we will finally see Jacob and Tucker back on the field (unfortunately not to play defense for NW). A win will give the team 10 wins and a winning record in NLC!

The JV lost 9-0, plenty of room for improvement to say the least.

Today's Practice (Wednesday 9/21/11)

Today's practice will be at the High School and will last til 5 pm only! The Friday varsity practice that was to be held at the game field will probably be at the High School due to the horrid game field condition.

Memorial - NorthWood 0-2 (0-1)

On a nice and sunny (or "sunny and bright" as statman Jacob noted it in "the book")evening we attempted first of all to watch the JV play the early game thru all the thick and tall grass. The grass was left intentionally high so it could soak up the fertilizer or as we at NW call it: geese droppings.

FIRST HALF
NorthWood would start yet another lineup mainly due to the numerous injuries that have plagued the team troughout the season. Taylor would have to sit on the bench with a mild concussion. Luckily, Connor was available and did start at center mid. The first 15 minutes or so saw the play go back and forth with some minor attempts at shots at goal. The Panthers would give up 5 (!) corners in this time frame but in general it seemed like the team had paid attention to the pre-game talk to attack the ball in the box. Most balls were cleared out or dealt with by Kyle in the goal. In the 20th minute, Josh crosses a ball high into the box from the left side of the field. The ball makes its way to Eusebio who is running into the right top of the box. His first attempt at controlling the ball is not a good one but his second one is. He then shoots the ball hard (!!!!!!!!!) to the near post to connect for the 1-0! NW deserves the lead, they control the ball and possess the ball for the majority of the time. Memorial is a counterattacking team who does not like to possess the ball too long. As soon as they have the ball, they look to play the ball long and direct to goal.
In the 23rd, Bennett Parker and Tim Escoto enter the game. Six minutes later, the Chargers create an opportunity near the box and the shot requires a good save from Kyle.

HALF TIME
There is not too much to adjust at the half. Coaches again stress the fact that Memorial plays the counter attack only thru the middle and that Eusebio and Josh are open on the outside all the time.

SECOND HALF
Memorial substitutes its keeper who, after a Coach Duerksen complaint, needs to change his attire so he does not imitate NorthWood players. Memorial starts out offensively by going to their wings. In the 46th, a Chargers attack includes an overlap and hard shot but the effort is stopped by Kyle. In the 59th minute of play, Tim gets possession of the ball in the offensive third and makes a smart pass out to Noodle on the outside who, in turn, crosses the ball thru and in the box to Josh. He plays the ball around the keeper and places the ball in the net to extend the lead to 2-0.
In the 68th, Memorial tries to individually create chances by dribbling at us in our box. The Memorial midfielder dribbles past at least 2 Panther defenders before being leveled by Eusebio (who has now done two things in one game we didn't think could happen -1. took a hard shot to score and 2. level someone hard)inside the 18. The ref immediately points at the PK tee (yes, they actually have a tee at the PK spot unless it is a target for geese arse kabobs). Memorial misses the PK by shooting it over, which at this point preserves the lead and shut out. A few minutes later Kyle has to punch the ball out of the 18 after a Memorial corner (#9) comes to close to the goal. In the 75th the Panthers get their last shot at Memorial but Memorial would wait til after the final whistle to get their last shot at NorthWood. As time expires, Memorial #14 takes out Noodle with a cheap shot. Surely it was a frustrating Senior Night for Memorial but this foul warranted a red card. The referee (who actually did a great job during the game) admitted later he should have yellow carded the kid but in my mind that would have been too lenient. All the hispanic players started talking about how they beat us in "club" (we don't have any players who play them in club) and Coach Duerksen's response to them was : "Scoreboard!". Obviously NW was the much better team tonight and the win guarantees the Panthers another winning season.

NOTES
The Varsity improved its record to 9-4 overall (3-2NLC). Next up is the home game against Concord this Saturday (11:45 am start).
The 2-0 win is the 5th shut out of the season.
The JV was not able to duplicate their last performance against Memorial and was defeated 8-1 with the lone goal coming from Brandon Shields. Alex had to deal with a missed header/faceball that knocked him on his back but he was able to recover from the incident, eventually.
The JV plays Concord on Saturday as well, their game starts at 10 am.
The JV record stands at 3-9-1.

Tuesday, September 20, 2011

NorthWood dealing with lots of injured players.

First the team lost Jacob Smith (torn ACL - out for the season) and Collin Tucker (ankle sprain - out for the season) and now it is dealing with an injured Taylor Wegmiller (mild concussion - out for at least Memorial game) and Connor Beckwith (thigh - questionable for Memorial game). The team has not started with the same lineup too often this season. Vitor Rosario came back from his calf injury a couple of games ago and is able to play some minutes for the Panthers.

NorthWood JV - Penn 1-1 (0-0)

Carter Beebe scores the goal to draw the Kingsmen. JV record is now 3-8-1.

SOME OF THE NORTHWOOD SOCCER FANS DURING LAST NIGHT'S GAME AGAINST GOSHEN

NorthWood-Goshen pictures

NorthWood- #21 Goshen 1-0 (0-0)

The game against Goshen was a crucial one on the Panther's schedule. After a bad outing at Warsaw, a good NorthWood performance would be important. The coaching staff felt that the team had been well prepared and had shifted some players around and adjusted the formation in which it would play.

The focus would be more on the defensive side of the ball. The prayer contest before the game was won by the Panthers who outlasted the Redskins by a good 11 seconds.

The man in the middle was the same as the one we had in the Bremen game and we were hoping for a little bit better performance which, of course, shouldn't be too tough. It would turn out that he did a little better although some calls were questionable especially his decision to stop the clock late in the second half when NW would take a corner.Graybeard has to be the first ref to ever stop the clock while waiting for a player to make it to the flag for a corner kick.

FIRST HALF
NorthWood lost the toss and apparently also the kick off which was a first, although, again, this might have been another gaffe by the arbiter trio.
Right from the start, NW would look organized defensively and from the back was able to possess from time to time. Pressure on the Redskins was applied no higher then the middle of the field. The Panthers were able to keep their shape and frustrate Goshen offensively throughout the first half. Halfway thru the first half, Goshen was the team who possessed the ball more but the Panthers seem to get comfortable with their new style of play against a good opponent.
The halftime score of 0-0 reflected the play on the field.

HALF TIME
During the half, Coach Duerksen tells the players that defensively they have done a great job and all they need to work on is playing to feet to improve the passing and therefore our possession of the ball. Expecting Goshen to adjust to the way we play, the coaches stress to the players that Goshen might start taking more shots from outside the box.

SECOND HALF
In the 44th minute, Carter Beebe makes his first run up the sideline to support a Panther attack from the back. In the first half, Barahona had accomplished the same feat. In the 45th, Goshen's #9 driblles thru the defense to come face to face with Kyle, who stops the shot. It would not be Kyle's last heroic save of the night. In the 47th, Josh Ailes takes a long distance shot that misses to the right of the pipes.
In the 54th minute, Connor crosses a ball high in the Goshen box. Two defenders and the keeper go up for the ball. The keeper collides with a defender and goes down momentarily. The ball ends up in front of Noodle who directs his shot to the right side of the goal. The ball finds the net to put the Panthers ahead 1-0. Only four minutes later it is Conner who passes a ball to Eddie who, in turn, shoots at the goal. The Goshen GK makes a save to prevent the second goal of the night.
In the 65th, Eddie passes a ball to Ailes who dribbles the ball up and takes a good shot at the goal but it goes over.
NW is winning most challenges, surely a great difference from the game two nights ago. Despite the high pitch screeching from the Goshen sideline, NorthWood maintained their focus on the game at hand. In the 68th minute, Goshen creates their second good opportunity of the half but Kyle prevents the ball from going in by diving on the loose ball. It was again Goshen's #9 who made it thru the box to go 1v1 against Kyle but it was again Kyle who came out on top with a strong save. But the pressure did not all come from the Redskin side in the last 10 minutes. In the 72nd minute of play, Eddie took a free kick from about 27 out and put it high on the frame. The Goshen goalie struggled to keep the ball out of the net and the save results in a NW corner followed by another corner. With only 5 minutes left to play, Goshen goes one on one with Kyle for the last time in this game, Kyle stops the intital attack and the ball ends up in front of another Goshen midfielder who kicks the ball over the goal. Final result a 1-0 NLC win against #21 Goshen. A quality win by a quality team! Truly a team effort and one of the better, if not the best performance by a NW soccer team. Especially defensively, this is the best organized game the team has ever played.

NOTES
The win over Goshen puts the Panthers (2-2) ahead of the Redskins(2-3) in the overall NLC standings. The varsity record now stands at 8-3. This was also the fourth shutout of the season (Mishawaka/Wawasee/Glenn/Goshen).

Next game: Varsity - 10 am tomorrow at home versus South Bend Riley!

The JV lost 8-1 to Goshen's JV and their record is 2-7. The JV will play in the Goshen NLV JV Tourney tomorrow.

2011 Argos Invitational

SUBWAY BETWEEN GAMES

GAME 1

GLENN-NORTHWOOD 0-3 (0-2)

The focus for NW would be to get another shutout while containing their #6 and #19. Glenn plays a very direct style of soccer and likes to take shots from just about anywhere.

The game started about 15 minutes late. The first half didn't start out well with an almost own goal from a deflection off Clay but Kyle was alert and averts a disastrous start. But right away, NW turns the tables on Glenn, Noodle creates a nice opening on the right side near the box and pulls a quick trigger. The shot hits the post! In the tenth, Kyle's long punt gets to Taylor who takes the ball to the Glenn goal, his shot bounces off the keeper and ends up in front of Noodle who volleys the ball in for the first lead of the day, 1-0. Six minutes later a nice Eusebio cross finds Conner who shoots and hits the crossbar. In the 33rd, a Taylor to Connor to Vitor combination gets crossed in the box where Bennet Parker connects perfectly to his left for a 2-0 lead.
In the second half, NW creates chances right from the get go. Eddie takes a nice free kick to Noodle in the 47th. Noodle's volley (again) finds the net, 3-0. In the 63rd, Noodle takes a great shot with a lot of pace that barely misses the goal. The 3-0 win puts the Panthers in the 8 pm Finals against host Argos (who beat Garrett 3-2).

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
ARGOS-NORTHWOOD 1-3 (1-1)
A second full game in one day would test the level of fitness. Josh "Red" Ailes would start this game fully fit since he sat out the Glenn game, serving his one game suspension. NW did not come out very strong early on. Argos took control of the game and created some problems near our box. In the 6th, a Dragon weak side run has a bad ending for the Panthers. A switch pass to the weak side results in a close range shot for the 1-0 lead for the hosts.
An attack on the NW right side of the box gives an Argos forward a 1v1 opportunity on Kyle but Kyle saves the shot from very close range to make sure we don't get farther behind. That stop seems to wake up Panthers. From that moment on we get a little bit more control of the game. In the 22nd, Taylor takes the ball in to the right corner and crosses it back hard across the box to Noodle. His shot off the cross to the right side of the goal, finds the ropes to tie the game.

At the half it becomes clear that no one came to Argos for 9 hours to lose and the desire to work hard and bring home some hardware becomes obvious right from the kickoff in the second half.

Only three minutes into the last half of the day, Taylor again takes the ball in the far right corner and again drills the ball hard into the box. The ball ends up in front of Connor who keeps the ball low and with composure, scores his 8th goal of the season. Score 2-1 NorthWood.

In the 57th, "Red" Ailes peppers the goal but his shot finds the woodwork. All together, NW would find the pipes five times today.
In the 72nd minute, NorthWood gets awarded a free kick from about 25 out. Eddie Salinas lays the ball off to his left to Josh. Josh shoots the ball in the upper right 90 for the final score: 3-1.

So the Panthers come home with some nice hardware by winning the 2011 Argos Invitational. Congratulations!

NOTES:
The team played a solid 40 minutes in the second half of the second game. The fitness level of the Panthers was very good. Easily outrunning and outperforming their opponent in the Championship game is an important ingredient of the succes for this tournament. To quote Coach Duerksen "we look fit and Argos is draggin' (Dragon)".

NW has now won five games in a row, getting shutouts in three of them. The record improves to 7-2-0 (1-1-0 NLC).

Next week will be a tough one with games against Warsaw, Goshen and Riley.

RED CARD, BUT FOR WHO?

Looks like Josh got struck pretty hard in the face or jaw, so who should have been the recipient of a card?
A.- Josh
B.- Wawasee player
C.- Assistant referee
D.- Center ref

Answer: Not Josh!

No NW-Wawasee pics today

Due to Lindy's videotaping responsibilties and the coaches' requests for tapes of the entire game of NLC contests we regret to inform you that we will not have pictures of last night's game. The coaches want to thank Lindy once again for videotaping the games. It gives us the opportunity to analyze the game which hopefully gives us the ability to make adjustments for future games.

NorthWood will play John Glenn at 3 pm. The winner of this game plays the winner of the Argos-Garrett game at 8 pm, the losers of both games play at 6 pm. The team will visit Subway or a similar restauarant after the first game so all players need to bering some money to buy a meal. The food and drinks provided by the parents will be given to the players after the second game.

Friday practice

Practices for both teams will be at the High School. The Varsity will have a shortened pratice (no later then 5 pm). The Varsity will travel to Argos for the Invitational Tournament tomorrrow, the JV has the weekend off and will return to action next week in and against Warsaw on Tuesday September 13 at 5 pm.

NorthWood-Wawasee 1-0 (0-0)

It rained off and on during the JV game but the weather conditions improved during the Varsity game. A nice size crowd came out to watch a home NLC matchup. The lights had been on for hours by the time the Varsity kicked off, the lights never came on for one official. But more about that later.

FIRST HALF
An opportunistic start presented the Panthers with several chances in the early minutes of the game. In the very first minute, Connor creates some room near the box but his shot sails over. Noodle receives a pass on the same side of the field only three minutes later and goes past the left Warriors defender but his shot misses to the right side of the goal. Wawasee would get too many opportunities in the first half especially considering their talent level. A couple of corners require either Clay to clear the ball or Kyle to make some good punching clearances to avert disaster. A pass to Noodle in the middle third of the field is cause for some excitement on the bench. Noodle receives the ball on his right shoulder and in true Spanish fashion, turns his body around while the ball goes in the opposite direction on his back. The ball then comes to a magic stop on the left shoulder, it then drops to the ground. Overall, the first half is average at best. Vitor re-starts his US High School career five minutes before the half

HALF TIME
Coach Duerksen switched to a 4-4-2 halfway thru the first half and stays with the more offensive set up for the second half. Sweeper/Statistician Jacob quotes the amount of shots on goal from NW in the first half: "ONE". Obviously that part of the scoresheet needs to change.

SECOND HALF
Four minutes into the second half, Taylor gets a pass on the left side and makes a nice fake move to the inside and goes around the Wawasee defender on the outside while taking the ball to the end line. Taylor then crosses the ball on the ground and back thru the box. The keeper tries to get to it but can not reach the ball, Connor can and executes perfectly for the 1-0 lead! In the 45th, Eddie's corner lands near Josh who shoots but misses. Josh gets the ball in the 53rd and crosses it up in the box and Vitor misses the header. Only three minutes later, Eddie takes a great shot at goal and the keeper barely stops it, the rebound gets to Noodle (or rather, Noodle gets to the ball)but the shot meets the goalie's hand for a corner. NorthWood gets plenty of opportunities for the next 15 minutes or so. In the 74th minute of play, one of Wawasee's players and Josh get tangled up and the Wawasee midfielder punches Josh in the jaw (video proof available). Josh raises his elbow and tells the Wawasee player to "get off of him". The crowd and other Wawasee players start screaming bloody murder and the assistant referee, who is not even watching the play, reacts to the crowd noise and raises his flag. The center ref goes over and listens to what the AR has to say and calls Josh over and presents him with a red card. Considering Josh did not do anything and the AR never saw what happened, it is unfortunate, to say the least, that Josh got "awarded" a red card. A call like that proofs once again that too many officials think the game is about them. It is bad enough that a lot of these officials make bad decisions because they do not understand the rules, the game and the speed of the game -mainly because most of these bad officials have never played the game, by looking at them-. This one would probably be better off judging hot dog eating contests. This AR was the same ref who gave Carter Dyksen a yellow card during the JV game for a 50/50 challenge but told him he would have given him a red card were it not for the fact that he forgot his red card. This expert in incompetence hopefully will not return to NorthWood to arbitrate soccer matches in the future.
Despite the fact that Wawasee players were overheard saying that Josh made no contact with their player, we were unable to get the red card overturned. Josh will have to sit out the Glenn game tomorrow but will probably come back with a vengeance in game 2.

NOTES
The JV lost their game 1-0. They fall to 2-5. The Varsity's record is now 5-2 (1-1 NLC) and the team is riding a three game winning streak going into tomorrow's Argos Invitational. This was also the second shutout in the last three games!

Bremen-NorthWood pics

Bremen-NorthWood 2-3 (1-0)

from UNITED SEITZ ARTISTS STUDIOS

The Panthers were welcomed to a lush yellow and brown soccer field that resembled an indoor surface with lots of dips and bumps. Fortunately the 18 yard box had been treated with about 48 gallons of water prior to kick off. The announcing shed/storage facility was in just about as much need of some paint as the field was of some water. The pre-game ritual by the Bremen Lions sounded more like a retired group of Indians in their 70's.

FIRST HALF
Bremen showed right from the kick off that they play a very direct style of soccer. The very first shot at goal came one minute into the game and required a stop by Kyle. The next ten minutes or so went back and forth until an Eddie Salinas corner. The near post corner got to Noodle who almost connected. Three minutes later a Bremen free kick caused a lot of commotion in the NW box and required a last second save off the goal line by a NW defender. In the 14th minute a beautiful Eddie cross lands on Taylor's head but misses to the left of the Lion's pipes. In the 33rd the referee awards Bremen with a corner. The kick from the flag goes in by way of a touch by Bremen's number 6. This is the first time this year that the Panthers do not score first in a game; the 1-0 is also the half time score.

HALF TIME
Coach Duerksen explains that 1-0 is not the end of the world, that we are the better team and have plenty of time to score three in the second half (prophecy?). Coach Dijkstra challenges the team to do whatever it takes to get a win no matter how ugly or pretty the play.

SECOND HALF
This is probably the best start of any half this entire season. In the 41st, Eddie gets a free kick and shoots the ball at the goal. The goalie seems surprised by the quick re-start and barely makes a save. In the 43rd, Eddie's corner lands by Conner Beckwith who executes perfectly with a shot that touches the crossbar to draw us even, 1-1. Only a minute later, Taylor Wegmiller takes a ball hard to the left end line and as if it were a practice drill, perfectly crosses the ball across the box to Eusebio who in turn connects for what we all thought was the 2-1. But the goal gets disallowed. The explanation we heard was that the ball went over the end line before Taylor crossed the ball. Both Taylor and Eusebio said it never went over the line. So the score at this point remains 1-1.In the 48th minute, Bremen takes a free kick from about 22 yards out. While getting ready to take the shot, several Bremen players block Kyle and some defenders on the NW goal line. The free kick goes high to the right upper corner and Kyle tries to get to it but is impeded by two Bremen players. The ball hits the net but the goal does not get disallowed despite the infraction on Kyle. After a couple of games with good officiating, we now find out that that streak will not continue. Not many times do you see officials not protect the keeper, especially when it is this blatant. As a matter of fact, Grandpa with the grey beard has harsh words for Kyle as well as Coach Dijkstra. I guess he doesn't like Dijkstras. My only advise to him would be to get a check up at the eye doctor. And I actually should have made an appointment for him for right after the Varsity game because then he might not have missed some huge calls in the JV game. Knowing that NW could not do much about the man's eyesight, it was back to business. With the score at 2-1, the Panthers started to pressure more and more. In the 48th, Noodle placed a thru ball on the ground to Taylor. Taylor went one on one with the Bremen keeper while keeping a defender at bay. With great composure, Taylor waited for the keeper to come out and then placed the ball in the net, 2-2. In the 68th minute, Eddie put a free kick right in front of Taylor. Taylor went at the goal but the ball seemed to have been stopped by the Bremen keeper. He did not hold on to the ball, it bounced against Taylor who then took a nice touch on the ball and it disappaered into the goal. With the score at 2-3, the game was not over. With 12 minutes left on the clock, Conner had another great shot at the goal. The Bremen GK bobbled the ball but was able to avoid another goal. In the 79th, Bremen would come in front of the NW goal one last time. One of the Bremen midfielders got a shot off but Kyle made a great save to preserve the lead.

NOTES
The players on the DL made themselves useful. Jacob did the Stats Book, Vitor was in charge of water & Powerade and Collin was sitting down.
The JV lost 3-1 (3-2 in my book). They played well and deserved more. A goal was taken away for being "off side". I guess it is hard to make the right call when you are caught way out of position. So I guess it is better to make things up rather then to call what you see. Of course when you can get a referee license online.............
