Ready for the season

The shirts are clean and ready for another season. Tonight we will have workouts (conditioning) from 7:00 - 7:45 at the practice field.

Who is to blame?

If you know what this is and who put it there, let me know. Hint......continental breakfast area at America's Best Inn and Suites in Anderson, Indiana.

Red Light/Green Light

This beautiful specimen of American automotive ingenuity crossed my path at an intersection of two State Roads north of Anderson. Problem was, I had a green light and Chevy Chase had a red light he chose to ignore. On top of driving a '77 Chevy stationswagon and blowing the red light, Chevy's chevy was pulling a (homemade ?)trailer. Luckily the brakes on the bus worked great and we were able to avert disaster!

Summer Soccer Showcase 2011

Mixed results but noticeable progress would describe the 2011 Showcase. The weather did not cooperate too much, it was hot to say the least. But the way it worked out made it bearable. Leaving Nappanee early in he morning in bus 2 & 3 with fuel topped off and AC working just fine, the trip was great (despite having less players then planned)and much shorter then previous years.

The morning game versus Illiana was a wake up game for NorthWood. We started slow, allowed an early goal and gave up two more on defensive miscues. The game was important from the learning point of view. The 3-0 score was not that important. The sophomores performed well and that was important considering we were five starters short.

The afternoon match up against Mt. Vernon Forteville again saw a Panther side give up the first goal early (20 seconds, the second goal after four minutes) but we battled back to a draw, the final was 3-3. We had faced a two goal deficit twice but came back to tie. It looked as if people got used to some new positions and played well together.

The evening activity consisted pretty much of eating out which was a workout for some. One of us was able to devour a meal totaling more then 2,300 calories ("the gun show visits Wendy's").

Bloomington South was the opponent on the last day. We played South pretty much even throughout the contest and were ahead 2-1 late in the contest. The 2-2 draw was a fair score. The team itself showed improvement throughout the tournament and it shows promise for the upcoming season!

Coaches work on field

COACHES DUERKSEN AND DIJKSTRA FILLED IN NUMEROUS HOLES AND SEEDED THESE AREAS IN AN EFFORT TO IMPROVE THE PLAYING CONDITIONS THIS SEASON.

Pre season scrimmage 07/14/11 vs Plymouth

Fourteen players were available and five starters were not. Jake, Collin, Connor, Eddie and Clay were out of town/state/country. Numerous sophomores took on new responsibilities and played well. The final result, 0-2, was not nearly as important as the experience quite a few players gained at the varsity level. For the Summer Soccer Showcase Clay and Jake will be available. Collin and Connor are in Brazil, Eddie is in Mexico. A total of 16 players will leave for Anderson Friday where we will face Bloomington South, Mt. Vernon and Illeana.
